How to Measure a Ceiling (Height, Area, Light Clearance)
Ceiling height for furniture clearance, area for paint or tile, fixture position for chandeliers. Three quick iPhone measurements.
Ceiling measurements get overlooked because they're overhead. But ceiling height determines whether your bookshelf fits, paint quantities, and where chandeliers can hang.
Por que medir isto
- Confirm tall furniture clearance
- Paint or tile area for ceiling
- Chandelier or pendant clearance (head height)
- Identify sagging or sloping issues
O que você precisa
- iPhone with Ruler AR
- Height mode
Passo a passo
- Ceiling height. Height mode. Tap the floor, then the ceiling. Modern builds 240-260 cm. Older homes 280-320 cm.
- At multiple points. Ceilings sometimes slope or sag. Measure center, near each wall, and near load-bearing beams.
- Ceiling area for paint. For flat ceilings: equal to floor area. For sloped/vaulted: use the surface area, not the floor projection. Use Manual Room Builder if not flat.
- Fixture hanging height. Pendant lights typically 80-100 cm above tables. Chandeliers 200+ cm above floor (head clearance). Measure from ceiling-mount-point to your desired hang height.
Dicas
- Modern lights are deeper, fixture body + light fixture = total drop. Subtract from ceiling height.
- Vaulted ceilings use more paint per "floor m²" than flat ones
Erros comuns
- Assuming flat ceiling area when it's sloped
- Hanging fixtures too low, banging head
