How to Measure a Parking Spot (Before You Park or Build)
Width, length, and door-swing clearance, three measurements that tell you if your car fits, or that help spec a custom garage.
Standard parking spots are 2.5 m × 5 m, and many cars are now wider than 2.0 m. For tight commercial garages or your own home, measure before you commit.
Por que medir isto
- Will your car fit (especially SUVs and pickups)
- Door swing clearance to neighbouring vehicles
- Driveway dimensions for new builds
- EV charging cable reach
O que você precisa
- iPhone with Ruler AR
- Length mode
Passo a passo
- Width. Tap each painted line of the parking spot. Standard 2.5 m. Compact spots 2.3 m. Wide (US disabled) 4 m.
- Length. Tap front line to back line. Standard 5 m. Long spots (limousines, pickups) 6 m.
- Door swing. In width direction, your car door opens about 70-90 cm. Cars wider than spot width - 100 cm: doors will hit neighbouring cars.
Dicas
- Garage spots: also measure ceiling height for roof racks
- EV: where will the charging cable need to reach? Plan accordingly.
Erros comuns
- Forgetting door swing, fits the spot but can't exit the car
- Ignoring ceiling for garages with roof boxes/kayaks
