How to Measure for an Oven or Range

Built-in oven vs freestanding range, different measurement requirements. Both come down to width × depth × height plus connection points.

Single ovens are 60 cm wide. Double ovens are 60 cm wide × 90 cm tall. Ranges (cooktop + oven combined) are 60, 76, or 90 cm wide. Get the cabinet dimensions right, plus ventilation gap and gas/electrical position.

Why measure this

  • Cabinet fit (most are 60 cm)
  • Cooktop clearance (for ranges)
  • Hood/exhaust position
  • Gas line or 240V outlet position

What you need

  • iPhone with Ruler AR
  • Length mode
  • Touch Mode for cabinet depth

Step by step

  1. Cabinet width. Wall to wall. Standard 60 cm. Verify with Length mode.
  2. Cabinet depth. Front of cabinet to back wall. Most ovens 55-60 cm deep; need 5 cm more for ventilation.
  3. Cabinet height. Single oven needs ~60 cm height in the cabinet. Double oven ~90 cm. Range (cooktop + oven combo) ~90 cm.
  4. Connection point. Gas: floor or wall? Distance from corner? Electrical: 240V outlet position?
  5. Hood/exhaust above. Hood needs 65-75 cm clearance above the cooktop. Measure ceiling height to determine hood model height.

Tips

  • Wall ovens are usually mounted at chest height, eye level for the oven door window
  • For 90 cm ranges, you need 90 cm wall space + 60 cm clearance each side for safety

Common mistakes

  • Wrong fuel type, gas connection but electrical model (or vice versa)
  • Hood too low or too high, affects suction efficiency
